Response to the fourth amendment

I agree with Sarah, the Bush Administration has gone too far. This can only keep on escalating, congress needs to man up and do something about it before everbodys privacy is invaded. The reason our founding fathers wrote the Fourth Amendment is to protect citizens from the government. I think what the bush administration is doing is a slap to the founding fathers. In addition, people need to start paying more attention to what our government is doing and stop being distracted with what celebrities are doing. Finally, in my opinion the Bush Administration has abused the powers it was given and its time to take them back.

Torture

I think one of the major issues that is going on today is torture and how it has been used on p.o.w. When the bush administration uses torture to interrogate someone their is something wrong going on in our government. The use of torture is inhuman and should not be used on prisoners. In addition, torture doesn't produce good intelligence and those being tortured will tell the torturers whatever they want to hear.
The bush administration has tried to make a loop hole on the article three of the Geneva convention saying that it does not apply to Al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters. This is bothersome to think that our government is saying that its ok to torture people. In addition, the government have also done arrest without charges and wiretapping. All those things are illegal and should not be allowed to happen. If you think about it this administration is turning into a dictatorship.
Furthermore their have been secret memos from the bush administration that authorized the use of physical and psychological tactics, including head-slapping, simulated drowning. The Bush administration has also said that waterboarding is not considered torture but most experts would disagree with that and say that it is torture. It is illegal to torture prisoners and we need to have consequences for the actions taken by the Bush administration. Also it makes it seem like the government have no boundary's and can do whatever they want which is wrong. In conclusion I think we need to put this administration on trial for all the illegal and inhuman actions they taken. The Bush administration has abused its power and should be regulated by congress. The presidents powers are limited for a reason and should stay limited. Finally we need to take back the power the president has, so he wont be tempted to abuse it.

Immigration

First of all this country was built with immigrants from all over the world. Most people that come to this country just want a better life for themselves and their families. As they say America is the land of opportunity, so is it wrong for people to try to make a better life in the U.S.? I think its not, but I do agree we have to stop the people that are trying to harm America like terrorist and drug dealers that come in the U.S.
In addition, I think the immigration issue is never going to be resolved. Some people want all illegal immigrants out of the country. If you removed all illegal immigrants out of the U.S. the labor force would decrease, which would make production decrease. The U.S. economy would be in trouble if you removed all illegal immigrants.
Also I think that corporations wouldn’t like the deportation of all illegal immigrants because they would loss workers and business. Who do you think they would rater hire an illegal or a legal person? The answer is an illegal person because they would pay them less or close to nothing for their work. Some people in the U.S. blame illegal immigrants for coming over here well why don’t they blame the corporations that are hiring them. Also corporations control the government so I don’t think they would ever get ride of all the illegal immigrants in this country.
Furthermore the flow of illegal immigrants is never going to stop. The government can put troops on the border built walls and all kinds of shit but people will still come to this country illegally. It’s like supply and demand theirs always going to be a demand for work and a supply of workers. Also it’s not just Mexico that’s bringing people to the U.S. its other countries as well. I bet if lets say Mexico was Germany illegal German immigrants would be in the U.S. because people will always want to better their lives. Finally the problem of immigration is too complex of an issue to be solved by the government.

WAR

There are many issues going on in the United States, but I think the biggest issue is the war in Iraq. Even tough the war in Iraq seems like old news it is still an important issue going on today. The war in Iraq in my opinion is a huge mistake, which is costing the United States many problems. In addition, the war in Iraq is an issue that affects everybody and still there is no end to the war.
The Bush administration in my opinion used fear to convince people that the U.S. needed to go to war with Iraq. For example, the Bush administration claimed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and that they were planning to use them on us. Until this day, we have not found any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. I think that the government should have verified that there were weapons of mass destruction before going to war over falls assumptions. The Bush administration made a bad decision going to war and should have used diplomacy first.
Furthermore, one of the problems that the war has cost us is it increase our national debt. The war in Iraq has cost us billions of dollars, which is continuing to increase. In addition, the money that we spent on Iraq is going to come out of our taxes, which would have gone to something more beneficiary to us. The money that we are using in Iraq could have been use to give health care to kids or even rebuilt New Orleans. The war in Iraq is financially costing us problems, which will continue to affect the United States.
In addition, the war in Iraq is an issue that is affecting everybody. For example, it affects both the citizens of Iraq and the U.S. soldiers. There are both citizens and soldiers that die everyday in Iraq and continue to die because of the war. In my opinion, it seems like the war in Iraq might turn out to be another situation like Vietnam were the death toll increases as long as we are at war. Another affect the war is having on us is that it has changed the way we look at government many people now disagree with the war, and would like to stop it.
Finally, I think that the war in Iraq is an important issue. The U.S needs to deal with this issue to stop all the problems it is creating. In my opinion, I think we should stop the war and focus more on the issue that are going on in the U.S. In addition, I think that we should not have gone into war in the first place and that nothing good could have come out of it.

Bush detain policy

Former chief federal judge Michael Mukasey approved secret warrants allowing government round- ups of muslims in the days after the september eleven attacks. Six years later Michael Mukasey now nominee attorney general is set to testify in front of the committee about the Bush administrations terrorist detention policy. When he was chief judge in the federal courthouse he issued rulings upholding the warrants as constitutional.
The warrants allowed the FBI to detain, without charges, an estimated 70 people, all but one of whom was a muslim, as withnesses after the 2001 terrorist attacks. Congress authorized material witness warrants in 1984 to allow the temporary detention of witnesses who flee before being called to testify to a grand jury or at trial. The warrants are signed by a judge in secret: the public is barred from court hearings about the people targeted by the warrant. Critics argued that the Bush administration has used the law to detain suspected terrorists when the government lacked suffivient criminal evidence to hold them.
I think that the committee should ask Michael Mukasey about the bush detention policy. Also they should ask him really tough questions about these secret warrants and why were they issued to people that didn't even do anything related to terrorism. A investigation on why people were detain for no reason should be conducted. In addition i think the committee should do something so that this does wil not happen anymore. Nobody deserves to be detain for no reason without being charged with something. Just imagine if the FBI arrested you and detain you without charging you with anything or telling you anything. The committte needs to really turn up the heat and press michael mukasey on these issues.
Finally i think that the Michael Mukasey and the Bush adminitration are wrong and should take responsibility for detaing people that are not even guilty of terrorist acts. I Think that it is unconstitutional to detain somebody without charging them with something specially when it does nt even relate to terrorism. In addition this issue should not be overlooked and that people need to realize that this is wrong and it needs to be changed.
